Flowers From Seed

About Flowers From Seed

A bed of mixed zinnias in red, orange, pink and yellow

Flowers From Seed is written by Ryan and the team at Gardeners Basics, a family seed company in Spanish Fork, Utah. We've been packing heirloom, open-pollinated seed since 2020, and we answer gardeners' questions every day by email and text. This site collects the answers that come up most about growing flowers from seed.

How we make money

We make the 35 Flower Seed Variety Pack, and that's the kit we link to on this site. Links to Amazon go to our own listing. If you buy through them, we earn the sale, and Amazon may pay us a small referral bonus. We don't take money from other brands, and we don't rank other companies' products.

That means you should read our product mentions the way you'd read advice from a seed company: we think the kit is a good fit for the gardens described here, but you can grow every flower on this site from any good seed.

How we write

  • Each guide answers one real question.
  • Planting times are given in weeks before or after your last spring frost, because that works in every zone.
  • When advice depends on your climate, we say so instead of guessing.
  • Some flowers here are toxic if eaten (foxglove, four o'clocks, morning glory seeds). We point that out where it matters. Our flower seeds are for ornamental growing only.
